Common Reasons for Breast Augmentation

June 12, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 227

Women choose to have breast augmentation done for a number of different reasons. Some feel that their breasts are simply too small or perhaps even nonexistent! Others feel self-conscious about their body during the summer months when swimsuits are a common outfit for outdoor water activities. Still others feel self-conscious in whatever clothing they're wearing and perhaps they have trouble finding clothing that doesn't look baggy around their chest. Many factors contribute to the decision for this type of surgery. Listed below are just a few:

1. Size - Too Small

One of the most common reasons given for breast augmentation is that a woman feels her breasts are too small and she'd like to have them enlarged. Silicone or saline implants can definitely solve this issue by immediately providing a larger cup size.

2. Pregnancy - Mommy Makeovers

Pregnancy and breast feeding a baby both contribute to a change in breast size and shape, sometimes making them appear flabby and stretched out. This type of surgery is typically one part of a "mommy makeover." It's usually combined with other procedures like a breast lift, tummy tuck, buttocks lift, and possibly liposuction.

3. Reconstruction after Breast Cancer

Many women undergo mastectomies during treatment for breast cancer. This is a surgery which removes either one or both breasts, depending on the severity and spread of the cancer cells. Implants provide a wonderful option to rebuild the woman's chest to its previous size and shape. Typically the rebuilding combines implants with fat and tissue from the abdomen.

4. Shaping Issues - Asymmetry or Shape

Some women's breasts are different sizes, and an implant in the smaller one will even the size and help them become symmetrical. Others choose surgery because of congenital deformities. Still others simply want rounder and fuller breasts!

5. Weight Loss - Adding the Size Back!

During significant weight loss, many women lose fat within their breasts which causes them to shrink along with the rest of the body. However, a woman may have been perfectly happy with her previous breast size, and want it back after dieting is done! Implants can definitely be used to restore the space left by fat reduction.

Whatever your reason for pursuing breast augmentation surgery, the reason should be associated with your health or well-being, and you need to desire to have the procedure done for yourself. You should never undergo plastic surgery because someone is pressuring you to have it done. A newly shaped body will not change your personality or your disposition. It will not enhance your relationship with your boyfriend, spouse, or significant other, and should not be done if growing your relationship is the goal.

Also, while this surgery is designed to enhance your self-esteem, it's still surgery. There are risks and a recovery process, just like any other surgery. These items should be reviewed thoroughly with your surgeon before you decide to have any type of invasive procedure done. You'll also want to consider the fact that you may need follow-up surgery later on to maintain your new look.
