Making Your Dish Healthier With Spices

April 05, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 83

if you want to live in a harmony, you need to keep everything balanced. That's why there are spices for food - to make food harmonious. The highest levels of harmony for a dish is when you use all 5 flavors: salty, sweet, bitter, sour and spicy.

One of the most known flavor for food is salt. Even the flavor for it is called - salty. However, I recommend yo use sea salt. Our body needs salt, because we have sodium and potassium minerals in our bodies. They help to regulate body's water balance and maintain functions such as heart beat rhythm, muscle contraction and brain function. In addition, salty flavor is favorable all over the world.

Lemon is another great spice, that gives you sour flavor. Lemon is used in many different dishes - it is almost irreplaceable in salads. But you have to choose lemon with the smoothest skin and the smallest points on each end, also it should be firm and heavy - those have more juice and better flavor. However, never buy lemons that are bruised, wrinkled or with brown spots. In addition, if you put it in a bowl of hot water for about 15 minutes, you will squeeze a lot more juice out of them.

If you like fruit salads, then you know that honey is irreplaceable there. It's own sweet taste is good in green salads, or for sauces too. My favorite sauce - honey with a lemon and a bit of garlic. Honey contains vitamin A and B so it enhances vision. Also it gives you strength when you feel weak and the most interesting thing about honey is that it increases your appetite, so it makes any salad more tasty.

If you look for a lot of micro-elements in a spice, then you're looking for parsley. A lot of people use it for decoration on plate, but it can offer much more. Parsley contains two types of unusual components that provide unique benefits for health - volatile oil and flavonoids. Parsley gives a vibrant bitter flavor, and also it has healing properties. If we would talk about vitamins, parsley has vitamin A, vitamin C and vitamin K. In addition, it is a great source of iron and folate. Volatile oil components of parsley include limonene, eugenol and other.

And finally, we have the last flavor - spicy! Chili pepper is my choice for spicy flavor. It contains a substance called capsaicin, which produces from mild to intense spice when eaten. The hotter the chili pepper, the more capsaicin it contains. The chili spice even can be used to relieve pain naturally.
