What Are the Different Nurse Anesthetist Programs

April 16, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 85

When looking at nurse anesthetist programs, you will see that there are several different programs to choose from. There are more than one hundred programs in the United States alone, and many more overseas if you're willing to travel. Some of these courses are accredited and some of them, while teaching you the information and procedures that you need to know to become a nurse anesthetist, will not allow you to take your certification upon graduation. This is why it is important to only enter a program that is accredited, as you'll save yourself a lot of time in the long run.

There are two main types of programs out there, masters in nursing of nurse anesthesia, and master of nursing anesthesiology. For the most part both of these programs will be similarly structured since they are accredited and must meet certain guidelines. The vast majority of these programs will last between two and three years and will require that you have completed your education as a registered nurse before you decide to enter into either of these programs.

All nurse anesthetist programs will get you ready to take your certification tests and provide you with both on site in clinic rotations, and school coursework. This will ensure that you understand the rules and guidelines of administering anesthesia and monitoring a patient who is under anesthesia. These on site in clinic rotations are extremely important for soon to be nurses, as needless to say, the role they will eventually be working in holds a huge level of responsibility, a responsibility that requires the anesthetists present to have as much experience as possible before they begin working alongside real patients.

Deciding on the program that you want to enter should not be taken lightly as this will affect your career for the rest of your life. The work and dedication that you put into your college career will set up how well you will do for the rest of your career so it is important to pick a school that not only offers the courses you need, but that also teaches them at a level that you can understand and learn from the easiest. When picking a school make sure they are accredited and offer assistance when you take your certification test. If you get all this right from the beginning, becoming an anesthetist is likely to become the best decision of your life.
