How Not To Rent A Noisy Apartment

February 19, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 150

No matter how nice your apartment home is on the inside and how great the location is, your apartment experience can be ruined by noisy neighbors. But sometimes its not enough to ask the apartment manager or leasing agent. You may have to do your own detective work.

Be Sure And Ask

Although you don't want to rely entirely on the property manager's word, they will be aware of any noise complaints. When a property receives some sort of complaint, the manager will usually be aware of any and all issues. They will no who is causing the noise, what part of the community is occurring in, and at what time of day and night its happening. A good property manager will know the majority of the tenants and will also know what tenants cause problems.

Now of course you will want to ask some other knowledgeable individuals about the noise. Don't be afraid to talk with a tenant in the hallway or even outside in the parking lost. They will give you a truthful answer. Someone who lives onsite will really be indifferent. They don't get anything in return for you leasing at the property.

Drive By At Night

It's always a good idea to drive by the property at different times during the day. Don't forget to drive by on weekends and especially during the evenings.

Do you see parties when your driving by with plenty of people on the balcony? If your concerned about what you see, ask the leasing agent for a unit far away from those units.

Do Some Research

Ask the police department in the area for any noise complaints. You will need to know the property address of the community in questions.

Remember that if you rent a corner unit on the top floor you will limit the noise levels. No neighbors will be living above you and you will only have neighbors on two sides.

When Your Touring

As you tour the apartment home be quiet and listen. Can you hear your neighbors watching television or even having a conversation?

I have Noisy Neighbors

If you have done your homework and you still have neighbors who are noisy you will need to take some extra precautions. There are soundproof curtains for purchase that may limit the amount of noise you will experience. If you don't have carpeting, be sure and lay down some thick rugs.
