The Advantages of Using Data Cabling for Your Office

May 30, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 98

Most companies today rely heavily on computers to handle their business. To make processes and communication go smoothly, most of these companies make sure to link their computers in a network through data center cabling. This makes it easier to relay instructions, monitor employees' activities while at the office, and compile data for productivity reports.

Data cables transmit information from one device to another. The most common data cables are made of copper, the preferred material for any type of electrical and telecommunication transmissions. These days, fiber cables are also common for high-speed data transfers.

One example of a business using data cabling is supermarkets. All cash registers in major supermarkets are in one network, which allows for simultaneous price updates and information archiving. Computer labs at schools and universities also rely on data center cabling to keep a close eye on how and when students use the school's computers.

Computers are not the only devices you can connect in a single network. Printers, scanners, and other computer peripherals can also be included.

Despite the prevalence of wireless networks today, wired networks still have a couple of advantages over them. These three S's are the main benefits of wired networks:

- Security - While hackers may easily gain access to a wireless network using their own gadgets, they need special permissions to access a device physically connected to a wired network.

- Stability - Wireless networks may suffer from interference because of other electronics or radio frequencies. Wired networks experience little to no interference if installed properly.

- Speed -Wireless networks are more prone to lapses in data transfers than wired networks.

Data cabling is a complicated matter, especially if you have many computer systems to include in one network. Hiring data cabling companies to build your cable infrastructure is your best option if you want a quick solution for your networking needs. Here are a few qualities to look for when hiring someone to work on your cables.

Complete Services

A good data cabling company should provide everything you need for your data cable installations, and may even build your server room from the ground-up. Look for companies offering complete services and providing everything from cables and jacks to server room racks and cabinets.

Adherence to Standards

Make sure the data cabling company you're hiring adheres to the cabling standards set by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), and Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA).

Affordable Prices

The calculation of cabling service prices depends on the number of systems you're connecting to a network, the type of cables used, and the number of hours it takes to finish the project. Make sure to ask your cabling suppliers for a quote before hiring them.

Good Reputation

Check online reviews and testimonials from clients before hiring a data cabling company. You need to make sure they're good at what they do, and that they won't attempt to steal sensitive information from your computer systems as they install your cables.
