Soccer With 10 Balls - 5 Per Side All In Play At The Same Time, Is There An App for That

July 01, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 108

When I was younger, I played soccer for seven years. I played AYSO like many young teenagers, and I played a couple of years of club soccer, and some in high school as well. Perhaps you did the same, and you can remember having scrimmage games where you would play your own team members, or you might practice with another soccer team in a scrimmage game. Over the years, I had some decent coaches.

Sometimes we would have scrimmage games with more than one ball. This kept the action alive, and it really honed your skills to think fast, and work as a team. The most balls we ever played with on one field was 10, and that was a lot to keep track of, and it was nearly impossible for one player to hold onto three or more balls at any one time for more than a few seconds otherwise the other team would overwhelm them, and swarm them before they could pass them all to another player on their team.

Now then, this concept is not only fun, but it is interesting for other domains such as communication. Consider if you will the challenge of information going from device to device. One device cannot handle all the bandwidth, but the information needs to keep moving to get to where it's going, and like water it is always looking for an outlet. Okay so, let's talk a little bit about communication theory, use of time spaces between signals, and rerouted bytes of information for a second if we might.

Have you ever noticed that sometimes the bandwidth issues slow down your Internet communication while you are at a Wi-Fi location, or perhaps you've noted that sometimes the cell tower is overloaded with traffic, it just can't handle all of the communication traffic at once. Okay so, what if we allowed these personal tech devices to work in a grid formation, passing the information along to each other, perhaps bypassing the cell tower, moving it along to where it needs to go. Once it bypassed the traffic jam or the cell tower which was too busy, it might find another cell tower somewhere else to take that transmission and move into land lines, and then across the country.

If we designed an algorithm which could allow robotic soccer players to challenge humans in a soccer game using multiple balls, and rerouting those soccer balls to the goal of the human opponents, we might just have something like a self-healing communication system, one which could deliver all the bites of information to the intended destination, and therefore alleviating not only the traffic jam problem, but also the challenges which might exist from opponents, malfunctions, hackers, or power disruptions.

Indeed I hope you will please consider all this on a philosophical and theoretical basis. Also consider the neural network computing implications.
