June 23, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 108

The arguments that you present could be strong or weak depending on the evidence that you provide in support of it. You would be able to improve their quality when they are backed by good reasoning. You will need to understand how persuasion can be used and how it should be avoided in some instances. You would be surprised to know that some audiences can be swayed even by irrational or bad arguments.

During debates both parties try to get the attention of the audience and win them to their side. After deciding the topic, you will need to think of various ways both in favor and against the points that are been made.

Understanding Reasoning in 5 Simple Ways

  1. Even when you have a valid point, you would not be able convince people, if the arguments are not sound in reasoning. You would also be able to evaluate the points raised by others and this will provide you with an opportunity to put forth your points in an effective way.
  2. It would be advisable to include evidence and facts to support the case. This will help in reinforcing the arguments that are been made and the listeners would be able to clearly understand the points of discussion.
  3. You will need to demonstrate that the argument that you are presenting is sound in reasoning and this will help it gain acceptance among the audience. When you plan properly for a debate, you would be able to communicate in an effective way.
  4. Lack of confidence is due to the poor understanding of the topic that is been discussed. When you know how to present your viewpoint, you would be able to convey what you want. There is usually a clear distinction as to what an argument is and what is not. There are many instances when people are actually asserting something and it gets mistaken as an argument.
  5. Premises, inference and conclusion are the three main aspects that can be used to persuade the audience. You would need to use logical and clear arguments so that it can stand on its own. You can strengthen it further by providing relevant facts. There are various types of claims that can be used to prove the facts right or wrong.

It is important to practice and prepare for the debate beforehand so that you are aware of the key points that need to be discussed. This will help in persuading the audience to your side.
