Preparing For Debate - Finding And Using Evidence

Claim, data and warrant are three important components of an argument and they would need to be supported by logical reasoning and proof. You would not be able to persuade the audience without reasoning.

You would be able to make the claims stronger with proper reasoning and warrants. The factual aspects of the claim can be challenged as each team would come up with arguments and counter arguments to support their case.

5 Simple Ways To Prepare For A Debate

  1. After the topic has been initiated, you would need to provide evidence that is relevant to it. You would need to give explanation by providing proper proof for the claims that are been made. At each stage you would need to comprehensively explain the reasoning behind it.
  2. The evidence that you provide should be of solid reasoning and should not be just claims. When the claims are backed with evidence they become more persuasive and credible. It will also make the argument stronger.
  3. The substantiation that you provide should be from reliable and unbiased sources. This will ensure that the information that is been provided is true. It is always advisable to provide evidence that is more recent.
  4. Explain with evidence as to why you are true and the opposing party is false in their claims. You would need to support your argument with evidence that is relevant to the topic been discussed. The original persuasion can be extended without repeating the same points again and again.
  5. There are various claims that need to be addressed in a debate. You would need the points organized. This will ensure that you do not miss out on anything. When you have a good flow, you would be able to win debates easily by providing all relevant information pertaining to the topic that is been discussed.

You can only get better at debates by participating in them. Selecting the topic is only one crucial aspect of a debate. You would need to have a plan and come up with different ways to present your case. It is crucial to persuade the audience to you side and this can be done by providing by providing evidence that substantiate the claims been made.

It would be advisable to practice rebuttal by placing arguments and evidence in support of the counter points that are been made. This will help you react immediately to the claims that are been made by the opposing team.
