Leadership in Real Estate Development

March 04, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 147

Real estate development has become a very lucrative and exciting business opportunity that has been redefined by those who build it bigger and those who build it better. From immense skyscrapers, to luxurious resorts, to the residential dream home, opportunistic developers are trying to leave their indelible mark as the developer that customers prefer.

Down through the centuries, many project capitalists have seen tremendous success while others have failed miserably resulting in a chasm that separates the highly successful from the mediocre or below average. Those who have experienced rapid expansion and large-scale profitability have an immeasurable quality that separates them as premier in the industry.

As it is very important to be an eco-friendly, developer that provides affordable, sustainable projects and properties, there is another crucial element in the development arena that can't be overlooked. One that has catapulted to immense visibility, those, who have captured and implemented its core principles. But one, that has also led to the demise of many well-intentioned industrialists, that believed, they had the distinct edge in architectural concept and design.

What is the missing ingredient of corporate viability and longevity that I am referring to? It is called proven leadership. Leadership is the common denominator in starting a company, in sustaining a company, and leading a company into the future. Without leadership, there is no foundation. Without leadership, there is no vision. Without leadership, there is indecision. Without leadership, failure is inevitable. The famous author John Maxwell puts it succinctly when he says: "Everything rises and falls on leadership".

There are many critical variables in executing premier, residential developments such as choosing the most competent, professional construction and design firms. Designing and building unique, imaginative, eco-friendly structures that demand precision and perfection. Developing and executing marketing strategies that outlive and outlast the global competition. Using advanced, state-of-the-art automation and technology that gives clients convenience and flexibility. These variables are irreplaceable in today's development equation. As crucial as these variables are in reaching the pinnacle of utopia in development, nothing can replace an executive team who knows where it is going and how it is going to get there.

Land and property developers of the past and today have come and gone. They might have been or might be excellent in analyzing economic, social, and environmental data. They might have been or might be methodical in negotiating contracts with the public and private sectors. They might have been or might be a green-focused organization that promotes sustainability. These are all significant contributors to the bottom line of successful and effective development processes. However, nothing can overcome a deficient, lack of corporate leadership in being able to pilot and navigate skillfully and successfully through an ever-changing, ever-advancing global marketplace.

Proven, established, futuristic-thinking leadership is and always will be the epicenter of efficient, sustainable, and long-term real estate development.
