Cleaning Your Coffee Pot With Vinegar

April 10, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 181

Coffee is a coveted beverage for many people, and when it is done right, it is downright delicious! Many people will spend hours deciding what region, what roast, and sometimes what flavor of coffee they enjoy most. They will take the time to get the freshest beans, grind the beans themselves, and brew the freshest pot of coffee possible, but do they ever think about the pot itself? Is that pot clean, and more importantly is the coffee machine clean on the inside?

No matter how delicious the coffee is, if you do not have a clean pot, then your coffee can more than likely end up tasting like mud! I remember growing up and my mother and father would fill the house with the smell of vinegar. Vinegar is hands-down the best way to clean your coffee pot! Not only is it the best cleaner, it is also very inexpensive. The cost of a bottle of white vinegar is only a couple bucks, and the pay off is delicious and fresh coffee.

The first step in cleaning your pot with vinegar is to dump out any leftover coffee from the carafe and empty the basket of the old coffee ground and filter. Make sure you dump all the grinds out and rinse with water. Next you will simply want to fill the coffee pot with one part white vinegar and two parts water. When my parents cleaned out their coffee pot they would simply use all vinegar, but experts agree the 1 part vinegar to 2 part water is just as good and more economical.

After you have added the vinegar and water to the pot, you actually want to brew a pot of vinegar water! This is where it gets stinky, but it is all for a good cause. Pour the vinegar and water solution into the coffee maker's reservoir and turn the maker on to brew a pot of vinegar water. Once the brewing cycle is complete, shut off the coffee maker. Sometimes after this part my parents would use another cycle of vinegar water to make sure it is extra clean.

Make sure you let the vinegar solution sit in the coffee pot for about 15 to 20 minutes. After that you simply want to rinse out the reservoir and pot, and this is where I would suggest brewing another pot that is simply water. After that you many rinse out the pot with soapy water. After this process you will have the best tasting coffee around!
