My Life Changing New Paradigm - I Am a Rock Star!

April 18, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 235

Even without a last name, you immediately recognize a rock star. Just like rock stars, many people dream of being one - Bruce (I'm a Jersey girl), Sting, Madonna- you get it! Even icons like Oprah, Warren, LeBron are rock stars in their own right. It's certainly possible to become a rock star and achieve success, but what does it really mean and what does it take?

During my 25 years in the Creative Marketing industry, I was frequently termed a rock star."Donna, you are such a rock star! You are so confident, positive and a great role model. You really know how to make things happen and you have a way of inspiring others. Look at all that you have accomplished!"

With my years of experience and expertise, I loved being recognized for my efforts and contributions but I never really felt like a rock star. Was it that I didn't have a reserved parking spot, or that I didn't like the spotlight, or that I didn't make millions of dollars? No! It was my own limiting beliefs that hindered my ability to feel like a success.

I knew that if I did not address this negative mindset it would continue to be an obstacle as I embark on my new career as an independent consultant and coach. My business didn't have a chance with this kind of attitude. Our paradigms are causative. What we believe shapes how we act and how we act produces the results that confirm our beliefs.

This was the perfect time for me to develop my annual Best Year Yet plan.As a Best Year Yet Coach, I knew I needed to spend quality time answering question 4: How do I limit myself and how do I stop? Upon reflection, I made some interesting discoveries.

It has always been hard for me to accept compliments and praise as I often felt the need to accomplish more, to be better, and to exceed goals as not to disappoint "others". I certainly didn't feel like a success nor did I think that I deserve the attention that comes with it. If I continued to believe that I was not good enough or that I did not deserve accolades for the things I did well, then I would never achieve my goals. This limiting paradigm had the strongest negative influence on me. After all, I wanted a successful business, I wanted to help others be successful, and wanted to have fun doing it. The more I thought about it, the more I wanted to be a rock star - influential, dynamic, confident, creative, and deserving of the fame that comes with success.

"I am a rock star" became my new, powerful, positive paradigm that pointed me to an exciting new future. I empowered myself with this new reality and it set me on my path for the year. I repeated it over and over again to myself and have even been known to shout, "Rock star parking!" when I casually drive into an open, front row parking space of crowed lot. I made a conscious effort to live this paradigm and I continue to keep this mindset top of mind.

This new paradigm has had a huge impact on my life and the way I approach my business goals. Unless we wake up to negative beliefs and assumptions that we have about ourselves and what is possible, we seriously limit what we can do. I needed to rid myself of this "voice" in my head telling me that I'm not good enough. It created the fear and self-doubt that prevented me from doing things I knew I should do like speaking engagements, networking, making calls, and pricing myself based on my worth.

So, how am I doing? I have a renewed sense of energy, drive and will to achieve for the right reasons. I have learned to pause and reflect on the small milestones as well as the big accomplishments of the day and week. I am confident with the value I provide and the contributions. I look forward to getting up in a room full of people to talk about the benefits of BEST YEAR YET program and the transformation it can have in their lives and businesses. I love meeting new people to share my learnings and to help them have life changing "aha" moments. I know that I make a difference and feel comfortable charging what I am worth.

Whether you are a musician, an athlete, a business executive, a student, or a professional Coach, you have to want success, you have to believe that you deserve success, and you have to be disciplined to work the plan you set for yourself.

I am a rock star! Just call me, "Donna". No last name needed.
