Keeping Your Sanity With Spring Cleaning

April 09, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 104

Giving your living area a thorough cleaning feels great when it's done. The process of getting started and finding out exactly what you are dealing with can be a bit more challenging. Spring cleaning usually ends up being one of those projects that takes a person longer to do than they ever would have imagined possible. Thankfully, there are some excellent tips out there to help you keep your sanity when you dive into your spring cleaning. The following ideas give you a great blueprint for making the most of your time and deliver results that are sure to put a spring in your step:

1. Have boxes and labels available.

Make sure that you have a way to label and store the things that can be put away. This will save you time and energy when you are ready to track those items down at some future date. Nothing creates a mess faster than opening up multiple boxes looking for something you stored. Clearly marked and labeled boxes eliminate that problem.

2. Keep cleaning supplies on hand.

Your goal is to not have to revisit the same room or area more than once when you are cleaning. If you have your cleaning supplies ready, you'll be able to make the most of your time and really commit to making the room that's in your spring cleaning scope start to sparkle.

3. Tackle one room or area at a time.

Frustration easily sets in when you discover that your living area has turned to shambles because you've cleaned a bit of each room without actually completing one. It seems like that always happens about the time that you are exhausted and ready to call it a day from your hard work. Tackling one room at a time is the best way to be productive and successful in your cleaning ventures.

4. Keep your closets uncluttered.

Closets have doors and that tends to make them an automatic capture-all if you need to do a quick clean-up. Unfortunately, that also makes them pretty tough to organize because there can end up being so much in there. There are a few specific things you can do to create closet space that is uncluttered. Consider:

  • Packing away seasonal clothes and shoes
  • Getting rid of clothing that you haven't worn in the past year and a half
  • Organizing your closet in sections
  • Keep items that you use the most accessible
  • Try to embrace the fact that you do not need to save everything "just in case" you need it at some point in the future

5. Don't hoard personal products.

Check over all the expiration dates on your cosmetics, medicines, lotions, and anything else that you keep in your bedroom or bathroom. Also, remember that you don't need to keep every basket or cosmetics bag that came "free" with your purchase. Nobody will ever have a good use for a large stash of those things and they take up a considerable amount of space too.

Spring cleaning feels so great when it's complete. You look around your living space, appreciating how clean and organized it is and wonder why you didn't do it sooner. Everything is easier when you are happy with the flow of your living space. If you go about the entire process with some sort of order and logic you'll find that you can keep your sanity throughout the entire process. Do you know what else? Every year it will become easier to clean your clutter because you'll have a system in place!
