April 26, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 149

Springtime is well and truly upon us now and summer is not so far away. Many people will now be planning some weekend breaks away or their summer holidays, why not take a trip to the spa city of Bath for a well-earned break? As Bath has a wealth of historical culture to discover and events taking place in and around the city this year, you might not want to miss out.

Apart from being well-known as the United Kingdom's number one spa destination for therapeutic relaxing breaks, Bath also offers a plethora of other activities, pastimes and things to discover. Bath is also a hub for the Arts and culture within the South West of the UK, with many galleries and museums showing plenty of different exhibitions throughout the year.

Here is a brief guide to just some big events taking place during the month of May in and around the city of Bath. First is the annual Castle Combe Steam Rally just a few miles on the outskirts of Bath at the Castle Combe Circuit. The Steam Rally takes place on 19 and 20 May and is a celebration of steam and historical motor vehicles.

This is fantastic day out for all the family and will offer children a chance to get close to some of these fabulous vehicles. There will be a central event area, displays, exhibitions and amusements for children, plus you will be able to see a wide variety of magnificent steam engines, vintage cars, agricultural machinery, motorcycles, military and commercial vehicles, plus a range of miniature steam models.

The next event not to be missed is the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay which will be visiting Bath on May 22 on route to the forthcoming London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics Games which begin on July 27. The route the Olympic Torch Relay runners taking through the city of Bath has been announced and the Olympic Flame will be passing many of the city's landmarks and attractions, including the World-renowned Royal Crescent. The local city council and the events organisers are encouraging visitors to turn out to show their support for this fantastic event.

The Royal Bath & West Show in Somerset is the largest rural and focus event in the United Kingdom, attracting visitors from all around the country. The event is held from May 30 - June 2 at the Shepton Mallet showground, which is located 18 miles south of the city in the beautiful Somerset countryside.

Visitors attending this event will be able to see more than 600 trade stands on display, which will include the country's finest livestock on show, viewing farming demonstrations, see the National Cheese Awards and taste some of the best cheeses available in the country.
