Summer Time in Festive Geneva

May 31, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 188

Geneva, the city of peace, is beautiful year-round, but many say that their favourite time to holiday here is the summer. Perhaps it's the beauty of Lake Geneva's blue waters sparkling in the sunlight or the sight of tens of thousands of rosebushes in bloom. Or perhaps it's the mild Alpine weather that's perfect for sightseeing. Or maybe it's the hundreds of attractions that are open daily, the state-of-the-art facilities and superior service, or the once-in-a-lifetime events that can only be experienced in this amazing global city.

Whatever their reasons, thousands upon thousands of travellers come to this city each summer. It no doubt helps that travel is a breeze. From Geneva Airport, taxi cabs take you directly to anywhere in the city. Geneva Airport, taxi drivers are very helpful and proud of their city, so don't be afraid to ask questions and ask for recommendations.

If you're planning to visit this summer, listed below are some of the festival and events you may want to check out.

Bol d'Or

Held over two days in June on Lake Geneva, the Bol d'Or is Europe's largest regatta. Each year, over 500 boats join the competition from all over the world. Sailing enthusiasts and amateurs alike will greatly enjoy the thrill of this exciting race. It's the perfect way to spend the day by the lake and participate in one of the city's most iconic traditions. Don't worry about losing your way, the lake will likely be the first thing that you'll see as you drive into the city in your Geneva Airport taxi.

Fete de la Musique

The Fete de la Musique is the city's largest music festival - and a whole lot of fun too. For three days in June, over 100 acts will perform at more than 30 different outdoor venues spread throughout the city. Whether your preference is jazz, reggae, rock, or hip-hop, you'll be sure to find a performance that will suit your taste. Make a day of it and check out the wide variety of food stalls that will be available to feed hungry revellers as they party in the streets from dusk till dawn. The best news is that most of the concerts are free of charge and open to everyone.

Fetes De Geneve

Held for ten days in August, the Fetes De Geneve is the highlight of the summer in the city. For these ten days each year, nearly two million visitors join in the party as the shores of Lake Geneva become dotted with carnival rides, concerts, food stalls, variety shows, and parades--quite a change from its usual tranquil atmosphere! The highlight of each evening is a firework displays sponsored by a different firework company each night. At the end of the festival is the incomparable Techno Parade - a glittering parade where each float is literally a dance party on wheels, complete with costumed dancers and blood-pumping beats.
