Getting Active on Your Tuscan Holiday

April 26, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 217

While villas in Tuscany can make it very easy to have a lazy and relaxing time, Tuscany also offers a wide range of superb activities you can get involved in if you wish. The scenery here offers some stunning possibilities for getting out of the towns and cities and exploring other parts of Tuscany you may otherwise miss.

So when you are looking to book one of the villas in Tuscany, bear the following locations and activities in mind to ensure you pick the best location for your holiday.

Head for Cavriglia National Park

You can easily spend a day here in the Chianti hills. It covers a wide area and provides a good opportunity to wander along the pathways and get closer to nature. The park is also well designed for horse riding and mountain biking, so however you wish to travel you can do it your way. Of course if you opt for horse riding or mountain biking you will be able to cover more ground and see more in a single day.

Go to Pitigliano and wander along the Etruscan pathways

Regardless of whether you choose to stay in one of the villas in Tuscany near Pitigliano or not, you must make the trip there to see the ancient pathways that are a famous sight for the locals to see. Many tourists aren't aware they are there, but the walk is worth it. They are described as caves, yet they are not covered over, so the sun streams in from the top. The deep paths were carved out by the Etruscans, and while no one really knows why they did it or even how they achieved such a task, it is fascinating to walk along them. You can see marks along the walls as you wander down these ancient and amazing paths.

Trek up a mountain

If you have never climbed a mountain before there are some good opportunities to do just that in this region. Mount Prado provides a worthy challenge that is worth completing, simply because it is the highest point in the region. It reaches up to beyond 2,000 metres and provides superb views of some of the Mediterranean islands once you reach the summit. You can expect to take several hours to complete the walk, so be sure you take plenty of refreshments and plan your journey back before setting out. Of course this is just one climb and one trek - there are many others that exist too. Monte Sumbra is an easier peak to climb while the Orecchiella National Park provides still more walks that are on flatter ground and thus better for beginners to tackle.

Regardless of which one of the villas in Tuscany you choose to stay in, there will be activities right on your doorstep. Plan a biking tour, go on a walking holiday or explore some of the national parks Tuscany has to offer. Your holiday can indeed be a very active one.
