4 Places to Find Your Next Job Online

April 19, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 108

Finding a new job is tough at the best of times, but jobseekers searching during times of recession have it even harder. If you've exhausted all your efforts hunting the high street going door-to-door or via job centres, maybe you should take your search online. Here are four places you can look to try and find your dream job online:

Job Search Websites

Depending on the nature of your niche, you may yield good results searching in standard job websites. These sites let you search either by the type of job, the areas you would like to work, levels of pay, or all of these.

You can then either apply online or contact the companies by phone to apply. This is quick, easy and hassle free. Make sure you tailor your covering letter to the company and proofread that - and your resume - before you email them to any prospective employers.

Specialist Websites

If you're looking for a more specific job, the best place to try would be industry specific websites. These will contain listings for jobs in your specialist area and save you spending a long time searching the web. Again, you can search for jobs in certain areas and that are offering a certain wage.

Many jobs on these websites are advertised through executive search companies. For example if you're looking for a career in social care, you will more than likely be applying first to a social work recruitment company. This means you have to make your CV and covering letter stand out even more. Make sure you carefully read the job description, and don't be put off by adverts that say "2+ years industry experience". Just because you don't have this, it doesn't mean you won't be considered.

Company Websites

Another obvious place to take your job search is to companies directly. If you don't want to deal with recruitment companies this is the best option. It also ensures that your CV is delivered to the right person straight away.

Even if jobs aren't listed on the website, fire off an email enquiring as you may be just what the company is looking for. Some places are always hiring - or will know a company you're perfect for - so don't be put off.

Social Media

Social media is growing in popularity and is a great place to search for jobs. Many companies will post links to their latest jobs on their Twitter and Facebook pages so make sure you're following a number of companies. On Twitter, you can also search for industry specific 'hashtags' such as #PRJobs to see if any have been posted that have slipped through the net.

Searching for a job online doesn't have to be a time consuming process. Allow yourself an hour a day to fire off emails and applications and you will put yourself in a good position. Jobs aren't always posted first thing in the morning either, so make sure you check back at different times to be sure you don't miss anything.
