The Basics of Dye Sublimation and Using It As Signage

February 22, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 176

Fabric printing is popular because it can provide a business, large or small, a way to express themselves in a unique way. Fabric printing can easily produce great banners, tapestries, curtains, or even flags with your company logo, or even an advertisement on a number of different materials. Some of these materials include silk, canvas, polysilk, and many others. Those interested in using fabric printing however will probably want to know how it works, particularly the process of dye sublimation.

Sublimation in a Nutshell

To put it simply, the state of matter is actually determined by the space between atoms. Solids actually have the most tightly packed atoms, and gas tends to have looser atoms. The amount of pressure applied to the substance will determine the phase, and if you apply enough pressure for it to change multiple phases you can force a solid to skip the liquid phase and move directly to the gas phase. This is the process of sublimation.

Parts of Sublimation

Dye sublimation printers have four ribbons, each with one dye color:

Cyan Yellow Magenta

The fourth ribbon does not hold a color, but rather the lamination material, and finally there is the thermal printing head. Throughout this process, print rollers move the thermal printing head over the ribbons, and through sublimation, the dye within the ribbon will change directly from solid to gas form, permeating the material used.

In this process, only one ribbon is actually used at a time, which means the process will need to be repeated four different times. Once the process is actually complete, you will have the option of creating virtually any type of signage you desire.

Benefits of Fabric Signage

If you are here, then you are more than likely wondering just how fabric signage can benefit you and your business. You could actually be surprised at the answer. You may not realize it, but fabric can serve to maximize your space and call more attention to your display whether it be within a store or a simple booth. Fabric signage looks more professional, especially considering the process used to achieve it!

When you make the commitment and decision to use fabric printing in your business, it would be in your best interest to know what type of fabric you really wish to use. That being said, it would be a good idea for you to investigate various companies that actually provide free samples for you to look over. These will obviously be fabric and color samples, meaning you can get a feel for what your sign will look like before you actually order it alone or in bulk. Remember, these are expensive, and the last thing you want is a fabric printing job that you really do not like.

You could be getting a fabric printing job done for a number of different reasons. You might be looking for a banner to promote a sale, or you might be looking for something a bit more permanent to hang on a store display. No matter what your pleasure happens to be, fabric printing, using dye sublimation, is undoubtedly going to give you an incredible aesthetic that you and your customers will remember for many years to come. When it comes to signage, you want to make an impact with your customers, and that is precisely what it will do for you.
