10 Tips on How To Have a Great Budget Day Out

July 22, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 158

Constructing amazing days out on a budget each month, or, even every three months can be quite a challenge. Sometimes all we need is a change of scenery, to get a breath of fresh air, or just simply to enjoy something different form the norm. Here are 10 tips to help you to turn an ordinary day into your special day out on a budget.

1. Adventure search Think of 5 to 10 things you would like to do or places you would like to see. Ask your family or friends to join in on the adventure search. Keep in mind that any activities should be reasonably priced. For example, a trip to a water park is possibly not suitable for a careful budget unless you have a good discount.

You could even turn the search into a "pre-day out" activity. Ask everyone who will be involved in the day out to sit at the table. Then ask them to write their ideas on a piece of paper. To help yourself and the others ask questions such as: - What is the most beautiful spot in town? - Where is everyone else going? - Have you ever wanted to do something crazy? - What kind of low price activities do you enjoy most? - Are there any hiking routes or adventure trails near you? - What do enjoy doing? - Have you ever wanted to go to a special site, monument nearby or a museum?

Once you have finished writing down your ideas either lay the papers on a table or, if you have a pin board, place them on a board. It does not matter how you arrange this. The only rule is that nobody should make disparaging remarks about the ideas of others!

2. Analyse and research the ideas Analyse and research each idea with these 7 helpful questions: - Is the proposed activity something everyone is capable of doing? i.e. Inline skating at a beach. If not then perhaps the others could join in via another method such as riding by bicycle.- How long does it take to get there? - How much are fuel, parking or public transport costs? - Are there any entrance fees? - Is it safe there? - Are there any picnic spots? - Does any member of the party have strong feelings against this activity?

3. Review Once you have all the details, review the ideas and check that they are feasible within your budget.

4. Choice Once you have the final ideas ready all you need to do is fold the pieces of paper so you cannot see what it is saying and place them in a jar or a hat. One of the party should then pick a piece of paper out of the pile and the activity listed on the paper will consitute your amazing day out! You could even keep the other ideas in the jar and pick them another time.

5. When Now you know where you are going and you have a budget. So you just have to decide when. For outdoor activities you might like to consider the weather forecast.

6. Preparation Prepare enough food and drinks before you go on your day out, e.g. sandwiches, fruits, juice etc. If necessary make a schedule and do not forget to leave some flexibility in the timing for unforeseen delays. Write down any directions, public transport routes and print out any vouchers for your activities. Is your car ready? Have you checked your tires? Do you have enough fuel/gas in your tank? Have you packed any games/books to read for your kids? Have you packed any rain covers (for sudden weather changes) and a blanket in case you are having a picnic? Do you have a little first aid kit with you? Have you packed tissues, napkins or wet wipes? If you have a camera, make sure to pack it. Anything else you need?

7. Have fun When your day finally comes there is only one thing to do- have fun! Enjoying yourselves and be happy. Forget about problems, no one should be allowed to complain and if there is a little problem like not having a parking space or something else, just move forward and do not let anyone spoil your amazing day. Let your hair down, stay present in the moment and enjoy every second of it.

8. Surprise If you are spending your time with friends and/or family, surprise them with something. Have a fun game planned or an activity. There are plenty of ideas all over the internet, you just have to look for them. If, for example, you are out with your kids and you normally have to say no to ice cream, may be check your budget and see if you could squeeze in a special one-off ice cream treat.

9. Review At the end of the day or the next day, review your day with everyone. Ask them to tell you what they loved and what they did not like so much. This is very useful when considering your future days out.

10. Keep your special moments If you took a camera with you on your day out, take the best photos, print them and put them into a book. Make notes for example where you were, what you did etc. It does not need to be a fancy book, you could even just put the photos and comments into a word document or a pdf file. If you do not have a camera or any other necessary tools for this, keep things like brochures, menus, a stone from the site (if allowed) or other free things which remind you of your day out. On your day, check if there are any tourism offices nearby, they almost all have free brochures and guides. You could even cut out pictures of the places you have seen and put them with the comments in a simple notebook.
