Positioning: The Battle for Your Mind [Paperback] - Book Review

May 20, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 208

It is so common to find books that deal with communications in the business industry and to be quite honest it gets very boring reading some of these books. I am happy to say that this book does not fit that mold and it was easy to read with some humorous insights as well as good strategies for communicating in business. This book is dedicated to speaking to the mass public that has been overrun with advertising in nearly every aspect of life. It makes it easy to understand how we all deal with each and the difficulties of getting your product out to those who are simply tired of being washed with ads on the internet, television, billboards and just about everywhere else.

The first point that is made is that you do not need to have a bunch of bells and whistles to get to your customers and to have them remember your products. This is because as a society, we are so used to seeing types of ad campaigns that we tend to ignore them and go on with our lives. By using more subtle techniques, it is possible to create an ad campaign that actually gets the attention of the target audience in a way that they actually remember and can relate to.

One of the ways to do this is to not overly promote your business, but to expand on the weaknesses of the competitors who may not be as subtle in their advertising. Businesses that have strong competition can also shift the market to the point where weaknesses can be shown and which also makes your company seem much better by comparison. This is a great way to get your brand in the heads of the consumer and it can be done in such a way that the competitors and consumers do not even realize that this is what you have done.

It is up to you to decide when and where these strategies can be used most effectively in your advertising campaigns and the authors simply give you the tools to make it happen. In business, advertising is the main way that a new customer base is built which leads to those customers who are found through word of mouth. Any company that wants and needs to be successful should read this book to gain the insight that they need to compete in this ever demanding market.
