So You Want to Sell Books, Do You? Well Pick Your Genre and Get That Book Trailer Made!

June 08, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 181

The other day, I was at a Starbucks in a town nearby, one where all the writers hang out. Having written a good number of books which are now available at Amazon's Kindle, I like to hear what everyone has to say, and hear of their successes getting published, or how well their books are selling. In other words, I like to compare notes as a writer myself. In any case, while I was there I talked to a couple of Christian writers, they were nice ladies in their 50s, and they had several books out that they sold on their website.

Perhaps you've heard of the new strategy of designing video book trailers, and putting them on YouTube, or putting those book trailers on your own website to help you sell books. As I understand it, this works very well, and they had showed me their new book trailer, and it was done very professionally, and quite well, even though they didn't hire a professional videographer. Indeed, I was impressed, and perhaps in the future I might make a few book trailers of my own for my current e-books online.

Now then, will this new strategy of theirs work? I'm sure it will, because I do belong to a couple of other online writers groups, and video trailers are all the rage, and you won't believe how many there are for all the different types of genres on YouTube. I would submit to you that if you are a writer you need to go to YouTube and look at some of these, and make a strategy or create your own. Why not, the software these days doesn't cost very much, and many of the tools you need come standard on today's laptops and tablet computers.

What if you don't have the perfect face for radio? No big deal, I'm sure you have a friend who has a dramatic voice, and the proper looks that will grab the reader's attention. Many authors write novels using a pen name, if you're going to do that, why not also hire a friend to be your actor or actress for your little book video trailer? Not long ago, I went to the Palm Springs California Writer's Guild, and I noted there were several people there talking about YouTube book trailers, and how they were able to create more sales by explaining what the book was about.

They also recommended to me that whenever you do a talk or give a speech about your book, you should be videotaping that so that you can use bits and pieces of it for your next trailer. Indeed I hope you will please consider all these tips and think on.
