Building Your Own Fishing Boat From Scratch

April 09, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 185

Apart from the appropriate fishing tackles, a fisherman needs a good and sturdy boat. A boat allows him to reach those locations where he cannot wade through. With the help of a boat, an angler can venture out on a night fishing trip, go deep sea fishing, go on a fishing and boating holiday, arrange a small family get together, spend some happy hours with his best buddies and so on. What boat one chooses actually depends on a lot of factors; his type of fishing, what he wants to catch, the size of the boat he wants to own and of course the budget.

Even in the world where most fishermen prefer a GPS and a fish finder, there are some ardent fishing fanatics who would do everything from the scratch. They would even build a wooden boat if they have to, instead of buying from among the many choices available today. Constructing your own boat is a challenge. Not necessarily a wooden boat, these days tools are available in the market with the help of which one can make a boat out of other raw materials as well. This would be definitely be a challenge but that is what fishermen do! They like challenges and really pushing themselves. Moreover the patience comes handy.

The first thing to do is to settle on a boat design. A saltwater fishing boat varies in the basic design pattern from a freshwater boat. Thus the type of water where one wants t fish will determine what design to choose. A plywood boat design is the basic design that the beginners find easy to deal with. The simple design only gives the novice boat builder more confidence and enhances his knowledge in boat building materials. There are books about some simplistic boat designs, which can be easily found in your local library.

Flat bottom boats are easiest and also the most versatile to be operated in flat waters as well as slow moving streams. However it is advisable to take the help and suggestions from an experienced fishing guide as to what boats would suit best and what materials to use for it. He can take you through the entire process and also be there to 'keep an eye' on how the boat is turning out to be. Keep in mind that even if you are fixated on a very chic model of boat and totally want to build yourself one, take it slow. You are new to this all, things might go wrong. Isn't it better to start simple and then take your expertise a notch higher once you are more confident about your skills?

But there is one thing that should not be overlooked. Even if you have built your own boat with extra caution and care and with all there required specifications, your vessel needs a boat review. Once it is done, you are ready to take your boat the next time you are going fishing. The next time you are fishing, you can brag a little about how you made this beautiful boat from scratch. It is definitely something to be proud of.
