Hard Wood Pool Cues

June 05, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 187

Playing pool is a great hobby, pastime and competitive sport. As with any other sport, playing pool or billiards requires the right equipment. Finding the best pool cue for a person's particular tastes and needs will take some research and trial and error, but with so many good pool cues out there, the right match will be found. A high quality pool cue does not have to be expensive to give a great performance. That said, house cues in pool halls tend to be abused, warped, and inferior so a real pool player will be armed with their own personal cue so they can deliver their best game every time.

Pool and billiard cues are still evolving in materials, design and performance, but the best pool cue is not necessarily the one made out of synthetic materials or other composites. Hardwood pool cues work just as well and often better than all the more modern materials used in some pool cues. Cue wood makes a difference in how the equipment performs, the weight of the cue and its inclination to warp over time. Choosing a hard wood cue is a wise long term decision and will avoid the expense of replacing the cue more often than what is absolutely necessary.

All good pool cues come in two pieces which makes them compact and easier to transport in soft or hard cue cases. Hardwood pool cues feature strong aluminum joints, insuring that the cue is strong and resilient once securely screwed together. These cues can be plainly coated wood or be painted from tip to bumper with striking metallic designs not unlike that found on performance hot rods. In the right hands, a pool cue can be a true performance machine and enhance the breaking and shot ability of the player.

Selecting the best cue wood for a particular player requires that they at least handle a few different cues to test for weight, balance and smoothness of the wood when moved in a stroke between the fingers. Even hardwood cues come in different weights and lengths so an individual should not feel that their preference for a certain wood limits their cue selection. It should also not be assumed that because a cue is made of wood it will warp easier. With proper care and maintenance a wooden cue can keep its fine straight line and never suffer a wobble or uncomfortable kickback from a break or forceful shot.

Purchasing the best pool cue to play with friends, compete in a competition, or just play casually at home requires insight into a player's needs. As a player's game improves they may find that they want to upgrade their cue or try a different style, but even their castoffs can be used as in house cues, or passed down to friends who perhaps only occasionally play. Good pool cues are not hard to find when someone knows where to look and they will endure with proper appreciation for the sport and equipment maintenance.
