What To Do For Anti-Aging

Keeping your skin healthy or fixing the damage is quite simple. Think of your skin as a puzzle. Each piece of the puzzle is geared to your damage and the ability to fix these problems. We first use a simple 'core program' of three items. The core components are as follows: Cleanse, Exfoliate and Protect. That's it! After a few weeks or depending on the your damage you can add a few more puzzle pieces, which may include Antioxidants, Vitamins, Cell Renewal and Lipid Recovery.

You don't need expensive products to make this happen. You just need extremely good products, pharmaceutical-grade and in some instances, medicated OTC (over-the-counter, non-prescription) items to help your condition. Stick to a very basic regimen and you can again have fabulous skin!

Anti-aging is not just about reducing fine lines and minimizing wrinkles. The trick is healthy skin that is hydrated, evenly toned and textured, and supple. There are seven signs of aging: dehydration, fine lines, wrinkles, skin discoloration, large pores, and loss of fullness and elasticity.

You have to start protecting and preserving the skin early in order for it to look and stay healthy. If you don't start using good moisturizer and skin care products in your 20s, it's much harder to maintain good skin.

Photodamage hurts the skin directly while in the sun, then over time due to chronic inflammation. To correct that, you want a combination of good ingredients that will protect the skin and also stimulate the repair process.

Day after day, your skin is attacked by environmental elements, such as pollution, sun and temperature, and that makes protection key.

Topicals alone can get you pretty far, and if you're only doing one thing, topicals are the best choice. What really changes skin is a good combination of multiple ingredients. The skin normally heals or regenerates with the right combination.

Here are some basic guidelines:

1. Do not overuse your products. When dealing with anti-aging products, less is better.

2. Apply each item thinly and evenly. Always blot up excess.

3. Allow each product to dry before adding the next component.

4. Always begin new products at bedtime. I highly recommend the use of AHA/Glycolic for (8) weeks at bedtime before increasing to twice a day.

5. When ready to add new items to your regimen, try only one at a time. Let your skin get used to it.

6. If pregnant, stop using your exfoliation products (AHA). Do not restart until after breast-feeding. There is no reason to cause additional irritation to the skin when you are going through hormonal changes.

7. Keep products away from the eyes. If you wear contact lenses, wash your hands thoroughly after applying any products.

8. If irritation develops, discontinue use for three (3) days and start up again. You may have applied too much or may have a mild flare-up as the pores are being cleansed. This is normal. Reducing the quantity of product used one at a time will allow you to find out which product is irritating your skin.
