How to Grill Steak

February 25, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 123

How to grill steak is the most common question we receive at our website. In this article I'm going to show you step-by-step, exactly how to grill steak. I'm going to show you what to so and what NOT to do, that is, how to avoid the most common mistake when grilling steaks on the bbq. Let's jump right in.

First, the main thing that you have to remember is that moisture is your friend. Everything that I'm going to tell you is for the purpose of retaining moisture in your steaks.

When you buy your steaks look for good marbling, that is, white streaks of fat permeating the meat. Fat in steaks is a good thing because fat equals flavor.Although, you don't want huge globs of fat. You can trim off large pieces of fat before you throw the steak on the grill.

Many people, that don't know what they're doing will slather their steaks with sauce. That is completely unnecessary if you can retain the moisture in your steak. Actually, if you bbq steaks correctly you don't need sauce at all!

After buying the steaks put them in the refrigerator right away until the day you are going to grill. Then remove the steaks from the frig and allow them to be at room temperature before grilling. Prepare your grill first by heating it up before you throw on the steaks. This will insure that you sear the steaks and give them a nice outside crust. This will seal in the natural juices and the flavor. Keep the steak away from the direct flame or any extended period of time.

A very common mistake that inexperienced grillers make is continually flipping the steak. The more times you flip the steak, the drier it becomes. Listen and listen good. Here's the biggest secret to being a grill master. You will flip the steak only three times. If you want the cross-hatch marks, just turn the meat at a 45 degree angle when flipping. Total grilling time is about 12 minutes, so you first set the steak on the hot grill and let it cook for 3 minutes. Then turn it over and let it cook another 3 minutes, turn it over two more times and let it cook 3 minutes each time. This will give you a medium rare steak, depending on how hot your grill is. These are approximate times. You will have to experiment to find out how your particular gill cooks.

With lots of practice you will soon become a grill master and knowing how to grill steak will become second nature.

Good luck!
