Nothing Could Be Grander

April 19, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 185

The Grandy man, Curtis Granderson, had one the greatest games of his career Thursday night. For the first time in his career, he hit 3 homeruns in a single game. A solo shot in the first, a 2 run bomb in the second, and another solo blast in the fourth. He also had 5 hits for only the third time in his career, improving his season average by 75 points. He led the Yankees to a 7-6 victory over the Minnesota Twins, earning a split series. The win also brings the Yankees to an overall record of 7-6.

More Boo's For Hughes: Yes, it's true that Phil Hughes had his best stuff tonight, but that doesn't mean he pitched well. It will go down as a win for the 25 year old starter, but he olny managed to go 5 1/3 innings, giving up 6 runs(2 earned). You really have to wonder how much longer excuses will be made about Hughes. With the killer P's (Pettite, Pineda, Phelps) on their way back, Hughes could be making some of his last starts as a Yankee. He could either go to the bullpen, or be traded to another team, but the Yankees would most likely receive little in return.

Bullpen Continues To Shine: With each of the 5 Yankee starters with ERA's over 4, you might wonder how the Yankees have managed to win 7 games. Well, once again the bullpen shut the opponent down. Rafael Soriano struck out the side, David Robertson worked into and out of trouble, and Mariano Rivera was impressive, retiring the heart of the Twins order to close the game.

The Captains Streak Continues: With a hit in Thursday nights game, Derek Jeter improved his hitting streak to ten games. After a poor first half to last season, Jeter has been unstoppable, hitting almost .350.

Texeira Heating Up: Mark Texeira, who has always been a slow starter, hit his first homerun of the season. He has been looking better and better at the plate. He could break out at any moment.

Look Ahead: New York now travels to Boston to play the Rival Red Sox, as they celebrate the 100th anniversary of Fenway Park. Ivan Nova, the best starting pitcher the Yankees have had thus far, will take the mound against Clay Buckholtz of the Red Sox.

Question Of The Day: Where would the Yankees be without their bullpen?

Hey Guys, I'm an aspiring sports writer, which is why is started my own blog about the Yankees. I would really appreciate if you guys took some time and checked it out.
