Online advertising does not have to be a hit or miss situation. It is easy to get more results from online advertising by employing a little bit of strategy. Instead of advertising products to a random group of people it makes more sense to spend advertising dollars targeting specific people that have shown interest in the product. Targeting people who have already shown interest in a product or company will warrant more results than targeting advertising at people who have no memory of the product or company and have nothing to relate this advertisement to. People who have seen this product or company before will be reminded that they meant to buy it and will click on the advertisement to continue to get more information about it.

One way to get customers to come back to your online store is to use retargeting as a method for advertising. Often times potential customers will surf the web looking at potential purchases for themselves or for other people. In the hectic daily lives of most people today they will end up leaving the web page without going through with the purchase. Retargeting is a way to offer then a second chance to go back to the website and purchase the items.

This method works by using banner ads and other methods of advertising to continually market a product or company to the potential customer in the hope that they will eventually make a purchase. When a potential customer leaves the website and starts surfing on another page or website a targeted ad can show up on the new page. Studies have shown that it takes about seven attempts to advertise to a customer before they will make a purchase. This method helps to contact that potential customer faster and continue the marketing and advertising to them.

If money is going to be spent on advertising the product it makes sense to advertise it to people who have already taken interest in a website or product and have spent time looking at the item and engaging with it online. This shows the vendors or retailers that someone is interested in the product and it is more profitable to then spend money retargeting that potential customer rather than to target someone who has shown no previous interest at all in the product. Consumers have generally also responded positively to this method of targeted advertising.
