The Life, Legacy and Spirituality of Baby Boomers

February 17, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 169

Baby Boomers have protested, gone to war, conformed, worked, experienced some life, made money, used drugs and bought a bunch of stuff. Their houses, cars and trucks have gotten much bigger, cost many thousands more than they did in their youth and they have lived well(?). Baby Boomers developed or re-developed the SUV (the station wagon of their younger years), cell phones, T.V., the computer, GMO Foods, chemicals, big (huge)businesses, big, very big government and many more wonderful? things. And, baby boomers have been able to live large (I read that in a cartoon somewhere). They have a well-developed quantity of life and a poorly developed quality of life. So, why should Baby Boomers even be concerned with spirituality?

This article is relevant to most age groupings in the U.S. today, however it does focus on the social grouping nearing the government's magical age of 65. Baby boomers have re-discovered drugs and chemicals, mainly prescription (bunches of prescriptions) and partly non-prescription. The Pharmaceutical/Medical industry is making train loads of money and much of it comes from boomers, because of boomers. As a social/age grouping they aren't very healthy or happy, it's the quality of life thing (lacking spirituality?). A very large percentage of baby boomers (most) are taking/being prescribed at least one drug/chemical daily and more than 45 million are taking anti-depressants (selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors, SSRI), more than 20 million of us have diabetes (the incidence of diabetes is increasing in all age groups in the U.S.) and a lot of us commit suicide (possibly the spiritual thing again).

Yes, I am a baby boomer. There are about 77,000,000 of us and I don't use drugs of any kind, zero prescriptions. Most of the boomers I know are taking some form of drug/chemical to help them make it through the day and some are quite stoned (I got over that in the 60s). I have found that I miss out on some meaningful? conversations about medical procedure experiences and prescription drug experiences.

I first asked myself if this is all there is to life about 45 years ago and I found the answer is NO. This is a question everyone, no matter what age, should be asking. All of the afore mentioned stuff, brings this article to spirituality and self-empowerment. Or, you can keep doing the same things in the same ways, again and again, hoping that those activities will get you what you may truly want, happiness and health and not just more stuff. I think this is one description of insanity. I am forgetting here that someone truly may not want to be happy and self-empowered.

Challenges/problems shouldn't be written of without proposing a solutions. Yes, spirituality and self-empowerment will change/improve your life, one of the very few absolutes on earth. There are many paths of spirituality (note I didn't say to spirituality) and it is a journey you will enjoy. This article is accompanied by a few thinly veiled suggestions, to assist you on your journey. Become accustomed to and learn of some of the well-established masters like Depak Chopra and Wayne Dyer, among many others. You have just made a great start into something you are going to really like, self-empowerment, spirituality and no drugs.

Spirituality and self-empowerment will change/improve your life, one of the very few absolutes on earth. Einstein: "The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift". Have Baby Boomers forgotten the gift?
