Motocross Helmets

February 07, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 186

Motocross riding is a thrilling discipline of motorcycle racing. Like most Motorcycle sports it can be dangerous. Motorcycles and Motocross Bikes travel at high speeds. Motocross Bikes (also referred to as Dirt Bikes or MX Bikes) are required to take jumps that can increase the risk of accidents. Wearing recommended well fitted motocross gear helps to protect you against injury in the event of a crash.

Motocross Helmets:-

Probably the most important part of any Motocross Riders Kit. The MX Helmet is the one piece of kit that will help prevent damage to your head, face and your brain.

It is essential to wear a correctly fitted helmet. Standard Adult Motocross Helmet seizes are as follows:- XXS 51-52cm, XS 53-54cm, S 55-56cm, M 57-58cm, L 59-60cm, XL 61-62cm and so on.

The most accurate way to find your size is to firstly measure your head with a tape, over the eyebrows around the head over the tops of the ears will give you a very near size. Then it's time to start trying them on! Your local MX Store can help you in this department. I have found through me own experience that not all Helmet Manufacturers are exactly the same, so really go with what you feel most comfortable in. Your Motocross Helmet should never be loose fitting or used without the safety strap fastened!

Dirt Bike Helmets vary massively in price so keep in mind what your using it for when making that all important purchase. If your looking for something for the kids to use in the back garden on a 50cc quad under adult supervision then the latest Shoei at £600 may be a little overkill. That said it is always best to be safe so check your Dirt Bike Helmet has the correct stamp on the back of the shell or the chin strap.

These vary from country to country. In the UK it's a Gold ACU Stamp and/or the E mark on the chin strap, the USA use the Dot or Snell Certification. A USA helmet would fail a scrutineers inspection at a UK ACU race meeting (something to bare in mind if your thinking of getting a better deal by buying abroad).

Your also going to need Motocross Goggles to go with your helmet. In my search I found MX Goggles from £15 up to £150 for the latest Electronic clearing system types. The perfect fit... that's really what your looking for! Goggles that sit nicely in the aperture of the Motocross Helmet without rubbing uncomfortably on the riders face or lifting away from the riders face. Most MX Helmet brands also supply Dirt Bike Goggles but there are also some brands that only specialize in Goggles for different types of sport.
