KaRae' Carey, Ph.D.

Inspired and motivated by her experiences as both a stepdaughter and stepmother of two children, Dr. Ka Rae' Carey, founded the Triangle Stepfamily Institute and is committed to empowering stepfamilies. Dr. Carey believes that with the right support, and armed with knowledge, living harmoniously within a stepfamily is possible.

Dr. Carey is originally from Michigan where she worked with clients suffering from chronic and acute illnesses, provided services within a school based mental health center, and ran a private practice for many years. Her clients included children, adults, teens and families. Dr. Carey has earned five college degrees. She earned an Associate of Science degree and an Associate of Arts degree from Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn, MI. She continued her education at Madonna University where she earned a Bachelors degree in Psychology and a Master of Science degree in Clinical Psychology. Dr. Carey earned her Doctoral degree from Oakland University in Rochester, MI.

Dr. Carey has also earned eight specialty certifications. Dr. Carey's specialty certifications include being a nationally certified professional counselor, an accredited clinical supervisor, a credentialed distance counselor, board certified health services professional, school guidance counselor, clinical addictions specialist, Child and Adolescent Mental Health, and a certified stepfamily counselor.

Dr. Carey is a member of Chi Sigma Iota, the International Counseling Honor Society, Kappa Gamma Pi, and the National Catholic College Honor Society. She is a member of the American Counseling Association and the North Carolina Professional Counselor's Association.

Dr. Carey has a wide array of experiences in the field of counseling. She served as a guest lecturer at Oakland University in the Counseling Program for over 4 years. She also provided supervision for students doing their practicum as well as their internships. She is a very well spoken and engaging presenter. She has been an invited presenter to six regional conferences and one national conference in her field of practice.

Dr. Carey brings an eclectic approach and philosophy to assist clients and families in achieving their goals. Dr. Carey's approach to working with clients and families can be described as innovative, unique, and client centered.
