Doug was born with a club foot and hobbled about until corrective shoes straightened out his gait. As a child he was often ill. He had pneumonia 3 times before he was 7 and was constantly plagued with allergies and chronic underweight well into his teens. He managed to enroll in the military despite being too thin at 120 pounds. Doug studied health and strength systems for several years and was able to become a paratrooper, run marathons and compete in kick-boxing. He also served in Croatia (1993)during the Medak tragedy. After a failed business in property management, Doug entered university (at age 39) and earned a Bachelor of Foods and Nutrition. Doug supported himself, working nights and weekends as a military and fitness instructor. At age 40, Doug won a kick-boxing championship. After graduation, he continued to train people in fitness and kick-boxing and wrote several articles and books. Doug is the author of One Less Victim, Stomach Flattening, Reduce Your Alcohol Craving and Train Her Confident. His writing has appeared in Outdoor Canada, The Sentinel, North American Survival Guide and Chicken Soup for the Canadian Soul. He has been a guest on CKNW, CHUM and CBC radio.
