Dagny McKinley

Dagny McKinley has an MFA from Naropa University, and a BA in English from the University of Western Ontario. She studied journalism and writing at UCLA. and has been published in various magazines and papers. Her love of the outdoors and the environment pushed her to share stories, writings and profiles of people involved with the environment. McKinley has worked as a dog sledding tour guide, hiked extensively across the US and continues to explore the outdoors with her dog, Alma Rose.

She currently works as a freelance writer in Steamboat Springs, CO with a focus on SEO content. In an effort to combine her love of literature and poetry along with positive change that is being made regarding the environment, she created To combat the negative effects of pesticides, McKinley launched

As a journalist, McKinley has contributed to the Steamboat Pilot & Today, Steamboat Magazine, Mountain House & Home, Homelink Magazine and DCD Home.

Most recently, McKinley published the book Wild Hearts: Dog Sledding the Rockies a coffee table book of photography and text based on her experiences working for a dog sledding company.

McKinley is the author of Audrey Rose, a long running column about a free spirited girl finding her place in a town while her heart lives in nature. Her essay 'How Are You?' was recently published in the book Now: Embracing the Present Moment. Her short story Nylon Screams was published in Fear Knocks. Her work regularly appears in A Soldier's Peasant was published in Di Algo Para Romper Este Silencio, an anthology celebrating Raymond Carver.

Her play The Eccentricities of a Butterfly was produced by The Great American Laughing Stock Company.

Her story Pray was performed by Stories on Stage in conjunction with the Denver Art Museum's HotDAM events and Denver Center for the Performing Arts actors.
