Understanding the Differences Amongst HD Ready TV, Full HD TV and UHDTV

April 18, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 187

To begin understanding the differences amongst these High Definition Televisions, we must first understand what resolution is. If you take a closer look at your television, you will notice that there are thousands of very small dots or very small squares that make up the whole picture. That is called pixel, the more pixel a television has the better the resolution of the whole picture.

HD Ready

An HD Ready Television has twice the resolution of a Standard Definition Television. If an HDTV bears an 'HD Ready' logo, this means that this HDTV has a 720p resolution. Meaning, it has 720 horizontal lines format to show.

Advantages

The picture in an HD Ready TV has no noticeable difference to a Full HD TV if the Television screen is smaller than 32 inches. An HD Ready TV can still show clear and sharp pictures coming from an HD signal and an appliance that requires an HDTV such as your PS3 or Blu-ray player. An HD Ready TV is way cheaper than a Full HD TV.

Disadvantages

Although an HD Ready TV is capable of displaying clear and sharp images from an HD signal, it still can't display some of the details that a Full HD TV can.

Full HD

An HDTV bearing a 'Full HD' logo has a 1080p resolution meaning, it has 1080 horizontal lines format to show. The pictures are extremely clear and sharp.

Advantages

A Full HD TV is best when buying a flat panel television with a 42 inches screen or higher. It has more pixels therefore it has better picture resolution than an HD Ready TV. It can display the details that an HD Ready TV cannot.

Disadvantages

I really can't think much of a disadvantage of having a Full HD Television in your home, except for the price. A Full HD TV can be very expensive.

UHDTV

An Ultra High Definition Television or a UHDTV is somewhat unheard of these days, but it is actually being developed in NHK Japan. A UHDTV is 16 times the resolution of an HDTV. It has a 4320p resolution and higher.

Advantages

If you want a television with a very large screen, then an Ultra HDTV is the one for you. Its immense size is its advantage amongst other HDTVs because you will not find an Ultra HDTV smaller than 55 inches. Watching movies and television shows in such very large screens is better being viewed in an Ultra High Definition Television.

Disadvantages

One of the disadvantages of an Ultra HDTV is also its immense size. Due to its massive pixels, there are no UHDTV that are sold in small screens; it makes it impossible to manufacture a small screen television with such massive pixels. The screen size of an Ultra HDTV is usually from 84 inches up to a 152 inches or even larger. Make sure to have a very large room when planning to buy a UHDTV.

For me, the only differences I see to these HDTVs are their sizes. For me, all High Definition Television can deliver clear and sharp images but only depending on their sizes. An HD Ready TV is only best for viewing from a 14' up to a 32' screens. A Full HD TV is best for viewing if you want a 42' or up to a 55' television screen. And an Ultra HDTV is best for very large screens, from 75' up to a 152'. So it's actually all about the sizes, if you want bigger television screens then go for televisions with more pixels.
