Big Bang Theory: How Do We Know The Theory Is True?

April 12, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 159

In this theory the Universe violently exploded at some distant point in the past. This moment of explosion is what is called the Big Bang. At the same time a very simple and very complex concept. If you go back far enough you reach a point around 20,000,000,000 years or 20 billion years ago. Astronomers accept this model as the one that makes sense and explains the things we see with our telescopes. Since then the universe has been evolving and expanding. So the Universe is around 14 billion years old. Due to the expansion the light longer to reach us, therefore the 20 billion years.

The Big Bang was not like an exploding bomb. If you take all the pieces of the exploded bomb you can build the initial bomb. 'But the universe is the bomb so to speak. There is nothing beyond the edge into which there was an explosion. Thus the Universe has no edge therefore you cannot ask but what is outside the universe and what does it expand into. This is one of those questions you can only find an answer by not thinking it unless you want to do it spiritual.

The Big Bang disprove the existence of God

This theory is a science theory and nothing in this theory attempts to disprove God or the existence of God. The spiritual question is for religious people to ponder on.

How can I understand this expansion like a child?

Imagine yourself very, very small and get on a balloon. Make it a yellow balloon. On this yellow balloon there are red spots. Now sit on one red spot while someone blows air into the balloon. At first you will be able to touch a few of the other red spots, but soon you will see all the spots move away from you. Anybody on another spot will also experience this expansion. So you are not only moving you are moving away because the space between the spots increase. This redshift is what we can measure with our sensitive instruments.

Are we then the Center of the Universe or somewhere on the Edge?

No, there is no center on this balloon. And even more of an enigma, there is no edge because the balloon does not expand into a room, the expansion is the universe itself. No matter in which galaxy you are, all the other galaxies recede from you.

How do we know there was an explosion?

Besides some obvious things we see with our telescopes such as the moving away of the galaxies there is something astronomers predicted we would find if the theory was correct. If there was a Big Bang they said, then there will be a cosmic microwave background that we will find. Then two men from the Bell Telephone Laboratories worked on a new microwave horn antenna to relay telephone calls to earth- orbiting communication satellites found something. When they pointed their telescope in any direction they picked up a faint noise. What they did not know at the time was that they had just detected the fingerprint, the cosmic background radiation, the stretched left over radiation from the Big Bang. This radiation field is called the 3-K cosmic microwave background.

Most astronomers accept the theory that the Universe was together in a dense point at some time in the past. Then after a violent explosion it started to expand. While the point of explosion is referred to as the Big Bang, this did not simulate an explosion as we know it. There was no explosion into the darkness of space, but the creation of space was started. The explosion started the creation of stars and galaxies as we see them today. This expansion will continue for billions of years and then it will fade out or start with a big crunch. Whether the Big Bang had a Creator behind it or not is your personal opinion, but the wonder of the Big Bang is for all to see.
