Aromatherapy Baths: A Recipe Guide

April 26, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 173

Many people use aromatherapy oils when taking a warm bath. This is because when a person soaks in a warm water bath, he or she is able to inhale the scent of essential oils as well as absorbing the oils through the skin. There are several types of aromatherapy baths.

An uplifting bath is great to indulge in when you are preparing for a busy day or a night out on the town. This bath involves the use of grapefruit oil, which will perk up your senses and get you ready for the long day or night ahead. It is important to note that grapefruit oil can be a bit strong, so if that is the case, you can mix it with a couple of drops of lavender oil. To prepare an uplifting bath, place 4 drops of grapefruit oil, 4 drops of lavender oil and 1 tablespoon of vodka into warm water. Another option is to combine these three ingredients with milk, and then add them all to the bath.

A wind down bath is the perfect remedy for a strenuous exercise regimen. This bath will ease stiff muscles and help you to relax. The wind down bath calls for 2 dashes of marjoram oil, 4 dashes of lavender oil and 4 dashes of eucalyptus oil.

A sleepy time bath is a deep relaxation bath that will help you relax after a long day. This bath recipe calls for 2 drops of clary sage, 2 drops of ylang ylang oil, and 4 drops of vetiver oil.

A sensuous bath creates a scented blend which lingers on your skin. This aromatherapy bath is ideal to take before a night with that special someone. The preparation for this bath requires 2 dabs of clary sage oil, 2 dabs of rose oil, 4 dabs of sandalwood oil and 2 dabs of ylang ylang oil.

As a general rule, when preparing any type of bath, you do not want to mix too many oils together. You want to add the oils only after your bath tub is full of water. This is due to the fact that the potency of the oils is reduced if you add the oils while the water faucet is running. If you are using very strong oils, it is important that you dilute the oils prior to adding them to the bath water. In addition, keep in mind that some oils may cause skin irritation and, in some cases, severe burning. Always keep an eye on your skin while taking an aromatherapy bath.

Additional aromatherapy bath recipes can be found online, in books, and through those who specialize in the practice. These baths serve as a safe and natural component of any beauty or health regimen.
