Why People Love Antique Fairs!

September 18, 2011 | Comments: 0 | Views: 209

Antique fairs are booming, becoming increasingly popular with all sorts of people and for all sorts of reasons. For some, the fairs are about finding just that, antiques - precious finds and investments that are important historic pieces or collector's items. For others, it's about finding quirky one offs or beautiful unique pieces that add true character to the home or make outfits really special. And there are some who love going to fairs just for a day out, enjoying the unique atmosphere and buzz, as well as a good rummage and nose!

In a world where mass-produced means everyone and everything looks the same, antique fairs are loved by those who want to stand out, be individual and make a statement. But when money is tight, an antique fair can also be a place to pick up a real bargain. And for those who care about the environment, an antique fair is perfect, a place to find items that are built to last - and where everything is recycled!

Antique hunting isn't for the faint hearted - the shopping experience does not involve simply going to the 'bedroom section' or 'fabrics section' and finding all the goods neatly organised in one corner, it's rather more of a treasure hunt. But not only does the hunt make finding the perfect buy more rewarding, it's also part of the fun! When you walk into a high street store, you pretty much know what you'll find - when you walk into an antique fair, you really don't have a clue what gems you'll uncover.

It doesn't matter why you love antique fairs or what you're looking for, there are some great fairs happening all around the country, from small local fairs, to big, well-organised events that draw in thousands of sellers and buyers alike. Europe's largest fair is the Newark International Antiques and Collectors Fair, held every other month at Newark and Nottinghamshire Showground, attracting some 4000 stallholders, along with buyers from around the world. There isn't much you won't find here. Other big fairs run over multiple days are Ardingly, a mid-week fair held at South of England Showground, and Shepton Mallet, a weekend fair held at Royal Bath and West Showground. Newbury and Swinderby fairs are great one day-events. But there are fabulous events happening all around the country each week so dip your toe in and see what all the fuss is about.
