Boosting Your Immune System With the Help of Turmeric

In a recent study conducted by researchers from Oregon State University, it was shown that curcumin, which is an extract derived from the spice turmeric, has the ability to triple the ammunition of your front-line immune troops responsible for your innate immunity in combating intruders in your body.

<b>Curcumin</b> had been known to contain antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties which were proven in past studies to fight against fatal illnesses such as cancer and Alzheimer's Disease.It can even stop inflammation processes in the body that most of the time leads to inflammation-induced diseases such as obesity.

The study which was published in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry, demonstrated that curcumin synergistically works with Vitamin D to activate cathelicidin antimicrobial peptide (CAMP), which is a critical component in your immune system that works by identifying previously encountered bacteria and rapidly removing unknown bacteria and other invaders.

It was also found that curcumin help influence CAMP levels and increases its production.Any natural compounds which can raise levels of CAMP were significant as it can boost immunity by creating a barrier for protection against pathogenic intruders.Vitamin D along with curcumin simultaneously works by fighting both systemic inflammation and infections.

Dr. Adrian Gombart, who led the study, stated that the new research can point to a new avenue for stimulating CAMP gene expression.It was even possible that consuming curcumin over time will have a great effect in your body, especially in your intestinal and digestive tract.

Researchers determined that curcumin triple the levels of CAMP as compared to the consumption of omega-3 fatty acids.Experts suggest that about 500mg of encapsulated curcuminoid supplements should be taken daily for optimal protection from these harmful pathogens.
