Heathrow Airport Terminals

February 26, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 156

London Heathrow Airport has millions of travelers crossing its gates every year. But, for any traveler who steps into the city or just transfers across the airport, the magnificence of the airport combined with a pleasant atmosphere with helpful services and great facilities offers an exciting experience. The airport is quite special for any traveler!

Heathrow Airport has 5 passenger terminals, 1 cargo terminal and 3 runways. Terminals 1, 2 and 3 were built in the 1950's and 1960's and are located close together. Terminal 1 serves domestic flights and is base to Star Alliance members. Terminal 2 is the oldest terminal and is currently under renovation since 2009. It is expected to reopen in 2014 and Terminal 1 is to be demolished with its services taken over by the new Terminal 2. Terminal 3 serves as base for flights operating to long haul routes. All these terminals are not up to the latest standards. However, they are comfortable and are under modernizing plans within a decade. Terminal 4 is located at the south end of the airport and is home to SkyTeam Alliance. Terminal 5 is located on the far west of the airport and includes a main terminal and 3 satellite buildings.

Terminals 1 and 3 are located at walking distance, while it's a 5 to 10 minute walk between Terminals 1 and 2. Free bus services operate between terminals 4 and 5. Rail shuttle services connect terminal 4 to terminals 1, 2 and 3. Heathrow airport is easily reachable through the M4 and M25 motorways.

All the terminals have a number of shops, restaurants and bars with diverse choice, ample shopping opportunities and lounges to relax amidst the noisy airport. All kinds of facilities and services including medical help, finances, information help and enquiries, hotels, prayer rooms and business facilities are available at the airport. No matter if you are frequent flyer or on your maiden visit to the airport, the airport staffs are very professional and help you with your needs.

Transportation is at no times a problem at London Heathrow. Just follow the signs to come out and enter the airport. Services via the Piccadilly Line, different coach and bus services and many private transfer services operated by private transportation companies are excellent.

With the Government approval for the construction of an additional runway and terminal, Heathrow airport is going to be still massive. Currently, arrangements are being made to meet the traffic demands for the upcoming Olympics 2012 in London in July.
