Heathrow Airport Arrivals

February 26, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 170

Heathrow Airport has 5 terminals handling over 90 airlines operating to worldwide destinations. Terminal 1 serves domestic flights operating to the UK and Ireland. Terminal 2 is currently under renovation since 2009. Terminal 3 serves flights operating to long haul destinations in US, South America and Asia. Terminal 4 serves long haul and European flights. Terminal 5 is solely dedicated to British Airways.

The arrivals areas are located in the ground floor of all terminals. In terminal 1, the international Arrivals is at the ground floor and arrivals for UK and Ireland operation is at the first floor.

When you leave your aircraft, follow the signs and pass through passport control, baggage reclaim and customs. However if you take a connecting flight from Heathrow and your baggage has been checked for your final destination, you can follow the signs for connecting to your flight.

The Passport control has two queues: one for European Union, Europe Economic Area, British and Swiss nationals and second for other nationalities. Any UK Border Agency officer checks your passport and travel documents. The E-passport gates have made arrivals easier these days. During peak times, when it gets delayed, you can use this rather than waiting for a long time. If you have an e-passport and your age is above 18, you can enter through these gates. This is done in seconds as there is only a face recognition check with the chip in the passport. You can follow signs to the baggage reclaim. Check the information screen if the baggage is ready.

After baggage reclaim, you need to get through the UK Customs. If you are arriving from any European Union country, use the blue exit and your hold luggage would have a green-edged tag. If you are arriving from any other country outside the European Union, use the green exit and your hold luggage would have a white tag. If you have any goods to declare, you need to go to the red point. Follow the signs in the airport for connecting to your next flight from Heathrow.

In the arrivals hall, you have a number of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants, currency exchange, UK car rental and hotel reservation desk. You can get all help that you require from the information desk. Special assistance is available throughout the airport. Heathrow Airport is currently undergoing development to meet the traffic demands for London 2012 Olympics.
