Different Ways of Sailing Croatia

April 02, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 167

When it comes to public recognition, Croatia may not be known for too much in particular these days; however, one thing this country continues to be a haven for is sailing. Croatia's location, in the heart of the stunning Adriatic Sea, means this country offers plenty of options for fans of sailing-related activities. What's more, the versatility of the country's landscapes and environments means there is more than one way to enjoy your time on the water!

In order to make the most of your experience, however, it is important to determine beforehand what kind of holiday you will lean towards when sailing in Croatia. Will you be based in the bustling, busy metropolitan centres (Dubrovnik, Split, Zadar)? Or will you go for a more nature-oriented approach and sail down the coast, appreciating the myriad beautiful landscapes on offer? The beautiful Eastern European country allows you to do either. With a little bit of planning, you may even be able to combine both into the perfect Croatian holiday!

In what concerns specific routes, Split and Dubrovnik are popular starting points, as they possess big harbours from which you can embark when on a holiday sailing. Croatia's coastline will disappear into the distance as you near the myriad islands littering the coast (some of which remain deserted and unspoiled), as well as other popular, must-see destinations, such as the medieval city of Korcula, the birthplace of Marco Polo.

In most of your stops along the way, you will also be able to experience the excellent Dalmatian cuisine first-hand, as well as sample its excellent wines. The routes starting from Split are a bit more rural, and show you another way of sailing in Croatia - namely focusing on its natural beauties rather than its more touristy places.

From Split, you can easily access plenty of small villages that will show you the true Croatian way of life, as well as natural motifs of interest such as underwater caves (a must-see if you are a diver). Alternatively, you can choose Zadar as your starting point for an adventure sailing around Croatia. Once again, this is a route which focuses a bit more on natural beauty than touristy attractions. It will allow you to visit some more of the country's surrounding islands, as well as the Kornati National Park which perfectly symbolises all this country has to offer in terms of stunning natural views. As you can see, then, in this country, you will never be short of options when it comes to sailing. Croatia can offer you the dream Adriatic holiday - simply choose a starting point and set off!
