Today We Are Rich by Tim Sanders - Abundance Book - 4 Strengthening Exercises for Your Giving Muscle

April 13, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 174

Tim Sanders is an international speaker, Fortune 1000 company consultant, and author of the book entitled, "Today We Are Rich - Harnessing The Power of Total Confidence."

Successful today, Sanders has experienced his share of life's challenges. He chronicles his "sideways" years, the time from his early twenties through mid-thirties when he was unsuccessful in many parts of his life. Raised by his grandmother, Billye, now 97 year old, she instilled the importance of practicing daily gratitude and giving.

Once Sanders began to appreciate his blessings on a regular basis, he was able to give more freely of himself. Good things happened as a result. Following are four exercises to strengthen your giving muscle and help you reap positive karma in your life...

Principle: Give To Be Rich

Giving, like gratitude, is a spiritual muscle. Strengthen it and you're able to give freely without attachments to possessions or status. It also focuses on other people's needs as well as your assets. This redirects your mind toward strengths and away from weaknesses. From your work life to your family life, when you give to others you receive gifts as well. Time spent helping others can often rejuvenate you whether you're burned out, freaked out or grief-stricken. Consider these four tips to strengthen your giving muscle:

  1. Boost Your Way Out Of Burnout. Unending harried workweeks can lead to burnout, including a defeatist attitude, decline in optimism and even depression. Instead of taking a do-nothing break, consider taking a giving break. Volunteer with an organization that does similar work to your profession. For example, a burned out dentist could volunteer his talents by doing cosmetic dental surgery on female domestic abuse victims. You'll experience a renewed point of view and become reinvigorated.
  2. Eradicate Thoughts of Lack And Worry With A Gift. Not-enough-ism beliefs can paralyze you with worry. Before you let thoughts of lack become dominant, challenge them through the act of giving. Perceived time constraints can drain our confidence. When you think you're time-starved to meet your goals, give some time to someone who needs it. Let it feed your energy; and spur your creative calendar-management abilities. You'll realize that time owned you, but by giving it away, you'll reclaim ownership. Tackle all of the apparent lacks in your life the same way. Your subconscious is easily directed by your actions. By giving away what you feel you lack, it's reminded that there is a surplus after all.
  3. A Relief From Grief. Convert your grief over a loved one's tragic death into a celebration of his life. Take time to grieve in whatever way is natural for you. But then, forgive. Give. Love. Celebrate. Transfer energy from anger, blame, self-medication and rejection of previously held values and beliefs.
  4. Giving Your Way To Generosity. Giving requires a sense of acumen. Give with the wrong intentions and you'll either quit before you make a difference or offend the person you're trying to help. Give wrongly and you'll be disappointed and less inclined to give in the future. There are right and wrong ways to give. Always understand your motivation behind it.

"Giving is a wonder drug," says Sanders. "When you give to others, you receive a gift as well."
